Hit: The Aero Glass GUI This I didn't understand. Plus, Aero is not available for Vista Home Basic? Why now? Probably because it's a resource hog. Miss: Performance I like the rating system where good hardware gets rated mediocre by Vista :) But there's plenty of room to grow with Vista. Hit: Media Center-ization

Anything that is not available for 64-bit Windows? And where does that leave those using 32-bit Vista? It leaves them with less than 4 GB of memory. Indeed, I suspect the main draw of Home Basic for these guys is that it ships without Aero Glass. Just turning that off adds noticeable amounts of 'The Snappy' to

Try to find Vista drivers, and if they are not available, look into getting a new Video card. ATI and NVidia are the most mature when it comes to drivers for Vista or even the GeforceFX 5xxx series for peanuts, and they all offer Aero Glass if you have premium, in addition to having more mature Vista drivers.

Microsoft throws in the towel on Vista
TV tuners have been especially problematic since many of the tuners bundled by OEMs are not available at retail and you can not get drivers except through the OEM. In order to experience Aero Glass in Vista you will need a video card that support DX9; I have a Nvidia 7800GTX and works fine.

Look at it more closely, they dont care if Aero Glass runs or not, they upgraded to Vista for the Movie Maker enhancements and Movie Maker will not load Movie Maker cannot start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not available.

Bill Grant not.available@online microsoft public virtualserver You don't get full Aero Glass, but with R2 and the R2 VM Additions you get a pretty good approximation. Vista and Longhorn Server Beta 2 look pretty good to me when running like this - better than they do using Remote Desktop from XP for example.

Why would I use .NET?
They are not available on all locations of the earth you know. From the specs it looks usable.. I don't know the quality of the components though. no one will benefit from them. that emachine had 512 mb ram and the OP was asking if it would run vista basic (that did not have aero glass, only aero basic theme).

That option is not available in the bios menu of this comptuer. I have sufficent specs to run vista or XP X64 as this notebook has slightly better specs than the on I am selling. XP 64 and vista beta's ran on it pretty well. No aero glass though. I hope it will be worth it. Any help will be appreciated.

Windows will select it when the DWM is not available for whatever reason. Whatever that has to do with the scenario at hand. to solve your particular problem: using the 'no DWM for this app' flag, you can remove that performance burden from the game, but not lose Aero Glass during normal use of your computer.

How do you use Aero glass?
Basic does not support it. If you have Home Premium or above, open your control panel, and double click on system. Under system, you will see rating. That has to be 3.0 or above to run Aero Glass. If it says your system rating not available, click on that, and it will take you to Performance Information and Tools.
